The Eco Office building is the centre piece of a brand new £8m works depot and is home to the City of York Council’s Commercial Services department. The ground-breaking project for clients City of York Council firmly establishes Carillion as a leader in providing sustainable solutions whatever the project. Creating such a flagship building relied on innovative design including: • Locally grown straw bales used to provide insulation three times better than required by building regulations • Under floor heating utilised saving an additional 40% on heating bills • Building orientation to maximise the use of ventilation and natural daylight • Natural ventilation utilised through window sensors detecting high temperature or Carbon Dioxide levels and opening accordingly, which was enhanced further through the open plan layout and thin floor widths • No suspended ceilings resulting in enhanced heating capabilities of the building by allowing concrete floor slabs to act as heat conductors to offices overnight • Rainwater Harvesting allowing the collection of water which is reused onsite for washing depot vehicles saving the use of clean tap water with a value of over £30k per year |
