National Assembly for Wales
When work on the new National Assembly for Wales building was halted in 2001 amid concerns over soaring construction costs, Carillion’s consultancy business, TPS, was called in to take responsibility for delivering the approved design to budget, time and quality. The £40.9m scheme to create a new National Assembly building in a prestigious waterfront location on Cardiff Bay, the second largest urban regeneration project in the UK, set out to observe the highest standards and codes of practice in design and construction. | |

TPS led a multi-disciplinary team, providing project management, planning supervision and client safety advice when work recommenced. One of the main challenges was the management of the risks associated with an innovative design, while seeking to achieve best value for money over the complete life of the project. Work was successfully completed in 2005, and the Assembly Building has since achieved BREEAM ‘excellent’ status. |
