Carillion wins third contract for George Wimpey at Falcon Wharf

23/03/04

Business and construction services company Carillion has secured a £35m contract win from George Wimpey City. ‘Falcon Wharf’, a spectacular mixed-use development, will be built on the banks of the River Thames at Battersea.

The 18-storey scheme comprises residential apartments with basement car parking, an integrated office block and a riverside restaurant. The stunning concrete-framed building will be clad predominantly in glass and has four curved wings in a cruciform shape. The structure varies in height from nine storeys for the East wing, 13 storeys for the North and South, and 18 storeys for the West wing. The first three levels of the building provide commercial space with level 4 dedicated to a centralised plant area. Level 5 and above is a mixture of private and affordable residential accommodation.

Alan Hope, MD for Carillion Building South says, ‘We are delighted to have been chosen to carry out the design and construction of Falcon Wharf by George Wimpey, one of our key customers. This is our third contract for George Wimpey, having previously carried out work for them at Alexandra Parade, a residential scheme in Glasgow successfully handed over in December. We are also currently on site at Lockson Wharf, a £10m scheme in East London. In addition, we recently consolidated our relationship further by winning the first stage tender for the £20m ‘Waterquarter’ in Cardiff.’

Carillion has already completed the demolition works at the Lombard Road site in Wandsworth and is scheduled to begin the main construction works in April 2004. Full fit-out for the residential apartments and shell finish for the offices and restaurant will be carried out as part of the two-year contract.
