Carillion and Renfrewshire Schools working well together
22/09/2005
Support services and construction company Carillion played host to a Working Well Together (WWT) roadshow at their Renfrewshire Schools project this week.
Around 200 site operatives, along with management and representatives from Renfrewshire Council, attended the event which brings key health and safety messages direct to the workforce. WWT installed a 40ft trailer on the St Andrews Academy site in Paisley, providing safety information and goody bags for every attendee. Carillion workers from other sites at Todholm Primary School, New RC in Linwood, and Gleniffer in Foxbar also visited the roadshow event.
Project director Angus MacInnes said: “It’s been great to have the Working Well Together roadshow on site today; it has brought some very important and serious messages to everyone involved in this project. Health and safety is Carillion’s number one priority and today’s event reinforces Carillion’s ‘Target Zero’ campaign which aims to reduce accidents and incidents to zero by the year 2010.”
George Smart, Head of Renfrewshire Council’s PPP Unit, added: “I wholeheartedly endorse this event, which underlines how seriously all the partners involved in delivering the new PPP schools view health and safety.
“Educating those working in the construction industry about how to behave safely and responsibly throughout the building programme is vital. The success of the project is measured no only by the finished product, but in the way we all work together throughout. We’re all proud to be taking part in this prestigious event.”
Renfrewshire Schools is a £100m public private partnership project for the construction of nine new build schools, including six primary and four secondary schools. Construction started in January this year and is scheduled for completion in December 2007.
WWT is the UK’s leading construction health and safety campaign, sponsored by HSS Hire with additional sponsorship from Berkeley Homes, Bovis Lend Lease, Gleeson, Persimmon Group and Taylor Woodrow. The Roadshow is also supported by Federation of Master Builders (FMB), Scafftag, Constructing Excellence, Trades Union Congress (TUC), and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). |
