Carillion scoops first ProCure 21 contract at Rampton 26/01/04

Business and Construction Services company Carillion has secured its first project under the ProCure 21 framework valued at £18 million.

The national High Secure Women’s Unit project at Rampton Hospital in Nottinghamshire will provide a dedicated facility for up to 60 women suffering from a range of mental health problems. The Unit will also provide a number of central facilities which will include, therapy, education, sport and leisure. It will be built within the present secure perimeter of the Hospital.

Rampton Hospital forms part of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, and Mr. John Ord, Head of Projects for the Trust, said: “The ProCure 21 framework underpins the Government’s commitment to improving services using better capital procurement through new partnerships with the private sector.”

Zara Lamont, Carillion’s director for ProCure 21 added: “Carillion is drawing on its extensive skills and experience in construction, early involvement and supply chain integration schemes to provide a high quality, affordable solution in this specialist field.”

Carillion was appointed one of 12 principal supply chain partners for ProCure 21 in September.

Based on partnering and lean construction principles, ProCure 21 comprises two elements: £200m of Diagnostic & Treatment Centres (DTCs) and £7 billion of framework contracts for any capital works over £1 million in value over a five-year period.

Once all the necessary approvals have been obtained, work is due to start on the Rampton site in summer 2004 with completion planned for early 2006.
