Carillion’s Focus on Falls Week
09/09/2005
Support services and construction company Carillion is holding a week-long safety campaign based around the new Working at Heights regulations which were introduced this year. ‘Focus on Falls’ runs from September 12 to 16 and is aimed at raising awareness of the safety issues of working at height and the on-site risks of falling objects and people.
All of Carillion Building’s 60+ construction sites will receive an information pack containing a guide to the new regulations, posters, leaflets, stickers, quizzes and activities for the week. Each project team is being encouraged to enter a competition for which plant hire company Speedy is donating a significant prize.
Carillion Building’s managing director Tony Lenehan says: “Falls from height are the biggest cause of fatal and serious injuries in construction, accounting for around 50% of deaths. The objective of this campaign is to help site staff make sense of the new regulations and think about ways they can increase on-site safety in this area. Focus on Falls is a part of Carillion’s ongoing ‘Target Zero’ campaign, which is all about reducing accidents and incidents to zero by the year 2010.” |
