Schools rise to Carillion Construction Challenge
17/11/2005
Support services and construction company Carillion has, for the second year running, organised a ‘Construction Challenge’ with schools local to its Brentford offices. Eight schools entered a team of five Year 8 students to compete for the Carillion Construction Challenge Shield.
The teams had to design, cost and construct a tower using paper, tape and other materials provided by Carillion. The tallest, strongest structure was created by Lampton School in Hounslow, who were presented with a shield as a prize.
The other schools taking part were The Green School for Girls, Gunnersbury Boys School, Isleworth and Syon Boys School, Gumley House Girls School, Longford Community School, St Mark’s School and Chiswick Community School.
Carillion has a long-running collaboration with local schools. Last year Carillion won the Jubilee Cup, presented by Hounslow Council and Chambers of Commerce, in recognition of its programme in conjunction with the Green School for Girls.
