Carillion and Beetham celebrate 123 accident-free weeks
08/02/2005
Support services and construction company Carillion and developer Beetham Organization celebrated the successful completion of 101-111 Old Hall Street, Liverpool, with a drinks reception and charity donation at The Tate Gallery in Liverpool.
The £46m project comprised a 200-bed Radisson SAS Hotel, a 140,000 sq ft office development leased by the UK Passport Service and UNISYS, and a 30-storey residential tower – the North West’s highest living space. Construction ran from February 2002 to September 2004.
Beetham and Carillion agreed at the outset to make a contribution to their nominated charities (NSPCC and Liverpool children’s hospice Claire House respectively) for every reportable accident-free week on site. Carillion was pleased to confirm that a total of 123 accident-free working weeks were reported, resulting in a donation of £5,000 to the charities. In addition, Beetham thanked their team of runners and sponsors of the Flora London Marathon 2004 for their efforts in raising approximately £30,000 for the NSPCC.
Carillion operations director David Cairns said: “The great success of this job was achieved through working closely with the Beetham Organization. Both parties placed paramount importance on the health and safety of the workforce, and they in turn cooperated fully to make it a very safe project. This has led to a considerable amount of money being raised for two deserving causes.”
Carillion is currently constructing the £52m, 48-storey Beetham Tower in Manchester, which is scheduled for completion in August 2006. |
